🎬 SayPro 5-Minute Pitch Video Script
Project Title: “Behavioral Nudges to Boost Savings in Low-Income Communities”
Target Audience: SayPro Review Panel, Partners, Public Stakeholders, Funders
⏱️ [0:00 – 0:30] – Opening Introduction
(Camera on speaker, calm and confident tone, SayPro logo in corner)
Hello, I’m [Your Name], a financial behavior specialist and part of the SayPro Professionals network. Today, I’m excited to introduce a project that brings science out of the lab and into people’s lives — a behavioral economics intervention designed to improve savings behavior among low-income communities in South Africa.
This project combines practical tools, scientific thinking, and community engagement to create long-lasting financial habits. Let me show you how.
⏱️ [0:30 – 1:30] – The Problem We’re Solving
(Visuals: video clips or photos of community environments, charts showing savings gaps, infographic of debt levels)
Millions of South Africans, especially in informal and low-income communities, face financial hardship not only because of low income, but also because of behavioral barriers — things like present bias, decision fatigue, and lack of structured planning.
Traditional financial education has not worked well on its own. People still struggle to save for emergencies, avoid debt traps, and build long-term resilience.
So we asked a different question: What if we designed solutions that match how people actually think and behave?
⏱️ [1:30 – 2:30] – The Scientific Approach
(Visuals: whiteboard animation or slides explaining behavioral economics tools, with clear text overlays)
This is where behavioral science comes in.
We designed an intervention using three key principles:
- Nudges — We sent regular SMS reminders that gently encouraged saving without pressure.
- Commitment Devices — Participants could voluntarily lock their savings for future use, making it harder to spend impulsively.
- Default Options — Some participants were automatically enrolled in a savings plan unless they opted out.
We tested this through a randomized controlled trial with 600 participants over 6 months, comparing results between those receiving the full package and those who received only basic education.
⏱️ [2:30 – 3:30] – What We Found
(Visuals: side-by-side data graphs, testimonial clips from participants, animated savings bar charts growing)
The results were remarkable.
✅ Savings doubled among those who received the behavioral tools.
✅ Financial literacy scores rose by over 20%.
✅ Budgeting behavior improved, with more people planning their spending each month.
✅ Participants told us they felt more in control, more hopeful, and less stressed.
This isn’t just theory — it’s change you can see.
⏱️ [3:30 – 4:30] – Impact, Sustainability, and Scalability
(Visuals: map of potential rollout areas, community facilitators in action, mobile app interface)
This intervention is low-cost, tech-enabled, and highly scalable. It works through mobile phones and local facilitators, with no need for physical infrastructure.
We’ve designed a Training-of-Trainers model to support community leaders in expanding this to more towns and provinces.
And because it aligns with national goals for financial inclusion and poverty reduction, it’s ready to be adopted by government agencies, NGOs, and banks.
Our goal? To reach 100,000 people in the next 3 years — transforming lives through practical science.
⏱️ [4:30 – 5:00] – Closing and Call to Action
(Camera back on speaker, soft background music, SayPro contact info and logo on screen)
At SayPro, we believe science is only valuable when it makes life better.
This project proves that even small interventions, when grounded in evidence, can create powerful change.
I invite you to support, scale, and share this model — and to continue backing initiatives that turn knowledge into impact.
Thank you.
